Ana Santos suggests: itinerary for 6 days in Tavira and Lagos
As our property advisor in the Algarve, Ana Santos has many recommendations for expatriates who want to live a quiet and relaxed life in the southernmost region of Portugal.
The Algarve is known for its stunning coastline, picturesque villages and a perfect blend of history and modernity. On this 3-day itinerary, Ana Santos will take you on a journey through Tavira and Lagos.
On the first day, explore the historic center of Tavira at your leisure and visit Tavira Castle. Take your time to enjoy the architecture and views of the city. After that, take a relaxing boat ride on the Gilão River and enjoy the scenic beauty of Tavira.
On the second day, take a boat trip through the Ria Formosa Natural Park, a unique coastal lagoon system, to explore the different ecosystems, observe birds and enjoy the picturesque landscapes. Afterwards, you should visit the city market of Tavira, where a lively atmosphere awaits you, where you can taste local products and buy souvenirs and handicrafts.
On third day, Ana recommends a guided tour to the Roman ruins of Balsa, located just outside Tavira. There you can learn about the Roman history of the region and explore the ancient archaeological site, which includes the ruins of a Roman villa, baths and fish salinas. To finish your visit, you can spend the rest of the day at the beach. Barril and Barra da Fuseta beaches are ideal for enjoying nature during a leisurely walk along the shoreline.
On the first day, you can start your visit with a walk through the historic centre, where you can visit Lagos Castle. In the afternoon, head to Dona Ana beach and enjoy the breathtaking views of the coastline.
On the second day, take a boat tour to explore the caves and grottos of Ponta da Piedade. Take time to admire the unique rock formations and beauty of the Algarve coast. Spend the rest of the day on Meia beach and relax to the sound of the gentle waves.
On the last day, enjoy a scenic drive to Sagres, where you can visit the Sagres Fortress and nearby Cape St. Vincent. Visit the lighthouse and explore the fortress exhibits at your own pace. End your visit at Camilo beach, a small and secluded beach with breathtaking cliffs and turquoise waters.
